Our Mission

The mission of Spence-Chapin is to provide adoption and adoption-related services of the highest quality. The agency focuses on finding adoptive homes for infants and young children who need families, promoting the understanding of adoption through counseling and public education, and improving adoption's image and practice.

Licenses and Affiliations

Spence-Chapin is a private, not-for-profit adoption agency specifically authorized by the states of New York and New Jersey. In addition, many other states allow Spence-Chapin to place children. Spence-Chapin is a member of the Child Welfare League of America, which sets standards for adoption and child welfare practice, and the Joint Council on International Children's Services, the oldest and largest professional affiliation of international adoption agencies.

Accreditations and Affiliations

Spence-Chapin has been fully accredited for all adoption and foster care services from the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children since 1986. In addition, as of February 2008 the Council on Accreditation (COA) has granted Spence-Chapin’s application for Dual Accreditation pursuant to the Intercountry Adoption Act of 2000 (IAA). This designation signifies that the United States Department of State recognizes Spence-Chapin as one of the agencies authorized to conduct intercountry adoptions under the Hague Convention on Protection of Children and Cooperation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption.
